About my digital skills
Different digital tools have been part of my life from a quite young age. I got my first mobile phone when I was 8 years old. Nowadays it is more and more common to have a smartphone even at a younger age.
I think that my hobbies helped me learning something about digital tools. When I was about 12 years old, I started photographing. After that I also wanted to learn to edit those pictures. I also started to organize them to the different folders etc. Throughout this, for example, I was able to navigate more and more different tools and methods.
Nowadays I use a variety of programs in my daily studies in a field of landscape architecture. Learning to use those softwares has not been easy to me, but rather vice versa. When I started my studies at Aalto university, I already knew something about photoshop (because of my photo editing experience) whereas the hardest time I have had learning to use 3D modelling softwares. Luckily, learning is a rewarding process. I have enjoyed making different kinds of visualization images by photoshop and illustrator programs. It’s nice to try out some new unique design presentation techniques with them and use creativity.
I am quite an amateur when it comes to coding or that kind of more advanced stuff. My next goal is to learn how to use AutoCAD more fluently. It has been a bit frustrating so far but I think it will be worth it.

VastaaPoistaHi Milla, fellow student of landscape architecture here! I remember myself getting first and pretty "ascetic" mobile phone with only one ringtone (it was editable though) at the age of 11 or something like that. From time to time, I really of miss those times, when being a part of society was not dependent on the digital reality. Still, I am happy with the more global and information rich world that internet has provided us and also thankful for all the unquestionable benefits that developing technology brings to the practice of different sciences. Still there is some learning maintaining a healthy balance between our physical and digital relation to the existence, I think.
VastaaPoistaI think there are many that share your struggle with learning new programs, but luckily there are fellow students who definitely are willing to help when needed. Autocad is pretty simple with 2d drawing, after you learn how to operate it. But in 3d its quite tricky and I recommend rhino for that.

Hi Milla, It was nice to read your writing. I also got my first phone and camera when I was younger and I've always liked photography. I also identify with the fact that learning programs is sometimes frustrating but rewarding when you learn to use them.
